Mercer_ Stairs

  1. The bending of a single plane to create different elements throughout the space is the most compelling aspect of the project. It is very unique to have just a single material model the floor, and stairs in a continuous manner as shown. I am just unsure if the thickness of the plane is actually reasonable. This is very inspiring in showing how one system can solve many design problems in a single move.

  2. I found this project to be intriguing because it showed how the different parts of a building don’t have to different but rather a continuing form. The floor becomes the wall, which becomes the stair. It was a single mesh that became all parts of the room. The view of the stair in elevation really helps to show how the mesh flows. It would be nice to see the structure and the railing to also become a part of this mesh in a future iteration.
